My Mommy Is...

Mommy Is
My Mommy Is... was inspired by conversations with my then 3 year old (B1) about going back to work after a year maternity leave with my second babe (B2). When my son said to me "I don't want you to be a Professor, I just want you to be my Mommy" I knew I needed to seriously consider how I was going to negotiate my work/family life. Years later, this interest has led me to research women's experiences of mothering and the ways in which their lives and identities are multidimensional - within and beyond motherhood. I still wonder how do my children see me and understand who I am (i.e. my mommy is...). What ability do they have to see beyond my motherhood? To what extent do I help/hinder them? I hope to encourage other Mommies, especially those with small children, to reflect upon our multidimensional identities through this blog.
